Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
